Independent Secondary Shut-Off Control System
Offers Peace of Mind
to Petroleum Industry
Revolutionary Spill Prevention and Leak Detection
System Brings Safety and Environmental Consciousness to Hazardous
Fuel Handling & Petrochemical
Transfer Facilities
Concord, CA
– July 3, 2003 – SpillGuard Technologies,
a leading provider of innovative single source end-to-end solutions
for the fuel movement and petrochemical industry, announced today
the unveiling of its flagship spill prevention management system
The GuardDog. The GuardDog is a unique new offering that serves
to protect filling facilities from loss due to accidental spills,
theft and potential leaks. Already in use at major facilities,
the proven technology of the GuardDog comes just in time for companies
preparing to comply with the latest revision of the new American
Petroleum Institute’s (API) Standard 1004 calling for an Independent
Secondary Shutoff Control System.
The GuardDog’s innovative, patent pending design detects a
catastrophic failure of the primary control valve within 750msec.
The primary control valve is used for delivering fuels and petrochemical
products into truck and rail tanker vessels. When a valve
failure is detected, The GuardDog leaps into action shutting down
delivery pumps and closing tank base valves, leaving the loading
operation in a safe secure condition. The GuardDog’s
smart logic locks out further delivery and immediately notifies
operation personnel via local and remote alarms of the problem.
It allows personnel to investigate, record and correct the problem
before manually resetting the GuardDog, arming it again to prevent
the next potential spill.
Users of the GuardDog are singing its praises saying, “It
works exactly the way they promised. It prevents the spills.
When The GuardDog detects a valve failure, it immediately shuts
down the loading operation, and notifies our personnel. It allows
us the time to safely investigate the cause of the failure and determine
the proper course of action, and it was easy to integrate into our
existing infrastructure.”
The GuardDog is built for harsh environments and conforms to National
Electric Code Explosion-proof NEMA 4 enclosure standards for Hazardous
Classifications, Class 1 Division 1 Groups B, C, D Environments,
ATEX and CENELEC: EExd IIB, and CSA Standard C22.2 No.30 and the
UL Standard 886.
“ It has become increasingly important not only environmentally,
but fiscally to properly manage and account for every drop of fuel
and petrochemical product. We are delighted to be able to
bring to market this innovative technology that not only enables
a safe work environment for fuel loading crews, but also allows
the precise delivery of product to its final destination without
loss,” said Lee Sherwood, CTO of SpillGuard Technologies.
“The GuardDog is the first product of its kind to meet the
new “Secondary Shutoff Control System” language of the
latest revision of the American Petroleum Institutes (API) Standard
1004. We used our 30 plus years of experience in the petroleum industry
to develop a product that reduces or eliminates costs associated
with EPA fines, environmental remediation and product losses, due
to spills. We believe those dollars saved can readily be brought
to bottom line profitability.”
About The GuardDog
The GuardDog is the first independent secondary shutoff control
system. It is quickly becoming the industry's defacto standard for
spill prevention. Developed from the ground up to protect lives,
the environment, and security. The GuardDog's patent pending design
continuously monitors from 1 to 8 loading or transfer streams per
unit. Built with the future in mind, its innovative design
ensures American Petroleum Institute's (API) RP1004 compliance,
reduces installation costs, streamlines operations, reduces or eliminates
the risks of spills, detects leaks and even detects attempted product
theft.
Under normal conditions The
GuardDog is silent until it detects a catastrophic valve failure.
Springing to action, the GuardDog automatically shuts down pumps;
closes storage tank base valves and locks out the loading operation
while alerting management personnel of the problem and providing
an opportunity for investigation. The GuardDog empowers management
with complete control -- not allowing loading to continue or resume
until management determines it is safe to load again by initiating
a keyed system reset switch.
Impressively flexible, the
GuardDog is easily integrated into the Terminal Management System
at tank truck, rail car, commercial and military aviation refueling
and marine ship and barge loading operation facilities. A Typical
configuration requires only one "GuardDog" unit per load lane. The
unit works in concert with SGT Inc's Pump & Valve Controller
and other existing safety components and emergency shutdown circuits
to provide a fail-safe mechanism for stopping flow when a valve
failure is detected. Call 1-925-363-1585 for more information.
